Any individual, proprietorship, partnership, LLP, or company that wants to import or export goods and services for commercial purposes generally needs to obtain an IEC Code before starting operations.
Commonly required documents include PAN Card of the business or individual, address proof, bank account details or a cancelled cheque, and passport-size photographs. Additional documents may be needed depending on the business structure.
Since the entire process is online through the DGFT portal, IEC Registration is generally processed quickly once the application and documents are submitted correctly.
The IEC Code itself does not expire, but businesses are required to update or confirm their IEC details annually on the DGFT portal, even if there is no change in information, to keep it active.
